Hair-cutting shears are scissors that are specifically designed for cutting hair. They are also known as barber shears, hairdressing shears, or hair shears.

The difference between “scissors” and “shears” is length and design of the handles. Scissors are smaller than 10” with two identical handles while shears are 10” or longer with one rounded bow for the thumb and a longer more elliptical bow for two or more fingers.

Comb through each section of hair and hold them with fingers. The thinning shears should be held facing down and use them to make the cut. Start at the mid-length of the hair and gradually make your way towards the ends. While thinning, work slowly and gradually for all sections to prevent over-thinning.
